2021 Mazda3 Sedan vs. 2021 Mazda3 Hatchback

New for 2022:

The refined and sophisticated Mazda3, which gives buyers their choice of either the four-door sedan or the five-door hatchback, remains as one of Mazda’s most popular compact cars. Fresh off winning the 2020 World Car Design of the Year at the World Car Awards, the Mazda3’s look and design already astound and impress – without a doubt – but what buyers wanted more of had little to do with the already established and revered look of the Mazda3 and more to do with what was going on under the hood. Fans and potential buyers wanted more power and in 2021, Mazda delivers.

More Power, All-Wheel Drive:

The 2022 Mazda3 offers the Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo engine to the 2022 Mazda3 powertrain offering which means that drivers will enjoy an engine that delivers 250 horsepower and 320 lb.-ft. of torque on premium fuel (or 227 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque on regular fuel). In addition, this powerful engine is coupled with standard i-Activ all-wheel drive for a dynamic, confident driving experience set to tackle all types of terrain with adept handling and responsive power that propels.

Mazda3 Sedan or Hatchback?

While both the Mazda3 sedan and hatchback models offer the same impressive amenities including advanced technology and premium features, where they differ the most is in their look, their length, their interior cargo volume (the hatchback offers more!), slight pricing differences, and the aerodynamic accessories offered for each with the Premium Plus packages. Read on for more about these details and then you can determine whether the Mazda3 sedan or the Mazda3 hatchback is the model for you.

The Differences: The Look, Length and Cargo Room

The Mazda3 sedan offers the sleek sophistication for which Mazda is known and while the Mazda3 hatchback can claim the same, it’s look achieves a more sporty, versatile feel with the curve at the rear that lets you know this is a different model with a different albeit refined look. The Mazda3 sedan measures 183.5 inches for its length with license plate holder while the Mazda3 hatchback only measures at 175.6. However, when it comes to cargo room, the Mazda3 hatchback wins that category by offering 20.1 cubic feet EPA Cargo Volume while the Mazda3 sedan gives you just 13.2 cubic feet for the same capacity measurement. So if you plan on hauling more cargo for road trips, vacations and other outings, then the hatchback may fit your lifestyle better.

The Differences: Premium Plus Package Aerodynamic Accessories and Pricing

To further differentiate between the two, let’s look at what the Mazda3 offers in its Premium Plus Package for the sedan and the hatchback. With this package, the sedan gets a gloss black rear lip spoiler while the hatchback is equipped with a gloss black rear roof spoiler and front air dam with the option to get the upgraded Aero Kit that includes a rear diffuser and side sill extensions. The Premium Plus Package offers much more including all-new i-Activsense safety technologies, leather seats, navigation and adds HomeLink to the frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror. However it is with the aerodynamic accessories where you can best see the different options available with the sedan versus the hatchback. For pricing, the Mazda3 2.5 Turbo sedan starts at $29,900 while the hatchback starts at $30,900. The difference in pricing for the Premium Plus package has the sedan at $32,450 and the hatchback at $33,750.
