Nissan Safety Technology Guide

Society today is all about the latest and greatest in technology, especially in vehicles. New cars come fully loaded with a vast assortment of safety features that can drastically help reduce the chance of accidents. While shopping for a new car, it is easy to get lost in the plethora of technologies that salesman and manufacturers bombard you with. This guide will give you a quick overview of what each of these features does so you can make an informed decision and find the right vehicle in the right trim for your needs!

Nissan’s comprehensive Safety technology is separated into three categories, the 360 ° safety shield, Intelligent Mobility Safety Features, and Nissan Advanced Safety Technologies. Each of these works together to help keep you and your passengers safe no matter where you go.

Nissan Safety Shield 360°

Automatic Emergency Braking w/ Pedestrian Detection

AEB w/ Ped will provide audio and visual alerts and may even apply the brakes in order to prevent or mitigate the impact of a collision.

Rear Automatic Braking

RAB monitors the area behind your vehicle for possible hazards including stationary objects, moving vehicles or individuals. The sensors on your Nissan will alert you if anything is detected and you fail to stop and may even apply the brakes for you to avoid or minimize the impact of a collision.

Rear Cross-Traffic Alert

RCTA uses your various rear sensors to detect oncoming rear traffic. RCTA will alert you if there is a vehicle coming that you can't see in order to prevent collisions.

Blind Spot Warning

BSW uses sensors on your vehicle to detect oncoming traffic or hazards in your blind spot. Your Nissan will alert you with an audible ping to let you know something is detected in your blind spot. This is invaluable on the crazy highways here in San Antonio where merging can be very dangerous.

Lane-Departure Warning

LDW will give you an audible warning if you drift over the lines of your lane.

High-Beam Assist

HBA automatically turns your brights on and off based on road conditions. If you're on a dark road, your high beams will come on and, if oncoming traffic is detected, they will automatically turn off so you don't blind your fellow drivers.

Nissan Safety Shield 360°

comes standard on the Nissan RogueNissan Leaf and Nissan Altima and it comes as an option on several other Nissan models.

Nissan Intelligent Mobility Safety Features

Intelligent Forward-Collision Warning

i-FCW monitors two cars ahead of you. It also gauges speed and distance and will give you a warning to slow down if it detects sudden deceleration.

Intelligent Lane Intervention

i-LI works in conjunction with Lane Departure Warning to help you stay between the lines. If you drift over the lines, your i-LI will correct you back over the line and  center you in your lane.

Intelligent Back-up Intervention

i-BI works with RCTA and your various cameras to prevent rear collisions. This system will monitor and sense oncoming traffic or hazards and can apply the brakes to avoid collision.

Intelligent Blind-spot Intervention

i-BSI will apply the brakes and correct you back to your lane if you attempt to change lanes or move when there is something detected in your blind spot.

Nissan Advanced Safety Technologies

Nissan Advanced Airbag System

Nissan's advanced air bag system offers dual supplemental front air bags w/ seat belt sensors that have occupant-classification sensors. These sensors adjust the inflation ate based on crash severity and seat belt usage to ensure the least amount of harm possible comes to the occupant. They also come with side-impact supplemental air bags built into the front seats which means that your safety and the safety of your passengers won't be compromised based on the adjustments made to the seats. Nissan's also come with roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental airbags which maximizes head protection.

Zone Body Construction

The zone body construction of Nissan vehicles help absorb crash impact.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

The TPMS is a built in monitoring system with a digital display that shows each tires individual pressure and warns you when one gets too low while simultaneously showing you which one needs attention.

Anti-lock Braking System

The ABS prevents wheel-locking which helps you steer around obstacles without worrying about your vehicle locking up. This system also works in conjunction with the electronic brake-force distribution which detects extra rear weight and adjusts braking force accordingly.

Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)

Monitors steering and braking and subsequently responds by reducing engine output by applying brake pressure as needed to specific tires.

Traction Control System (TCS)

When the vehicle detects wheel slippage, it responds by reducing throttle or applying adequate (and appropriate) brake pressure.

LATCH and Snug Kids

LATCH stands for Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children. This system allows you to secure child seats without a seat belt locking clip. Nissan's Snug Kids is a child safety seat fit program.
